2005 Black Sheep Finds, Genuine Risk, Happy Canyon, Santa Ynez
Peter, owner of Black Sheep Finds: "There is a road named Genuine Risk that runs alongside a vineyard in the far eastern reaches of the Santa Ynez Valley. It was once a grassy field where Kentucky Derby winners were raised. A place so happy they called it Happy Canyon. Today, along the hillside, there is a densely planted slope devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Verdot. Cabernet, long thought to be a genuine risk in the cooler climate of Santa Barbara County, is capable of producing a subtle style rarely seen from this variety in California. The blend is 87% Cabernet, 11% Merlot, 2% Petite Verdot, barrel aged for 12 months, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered."

2004 Veraison, Stagecoach Vineyards, Napa Valley
This wine shows layers of complexity. Aromas of blackberries, dark cherries and plums with notes of dark chocolate and mocha. The palate is full bodied and rich. It delivers the same ripe fruit flavors on the palate; blueberries, raspberries, blackcurrant and dark cherry, all the time retaining a beautiful savory nature, cedar and cigar box. The mouthfeel is finely knit, with firm fine tannins which lead to a long finish. Serve with glazed rack of lamb or steak Delmonico. Enjoy now through 2019.
2005 Shafer "One Point Five", Stag's Leap District, Napa
Allocated wine
2005 Textbook "Mise en place", Oakville, Napa County
9 barrels/210 cases
94 points Wine Enthusiast
2003 Steven Kent, Livermore Valley
2004 Hunnicutt, Napa Valley
Aromatically, this wine exhibits black cherry, vanilla, eucalyptus and cinnamon stick. The nose is complemented with dark fruit, toast, dried cherry, and blueberry on the palate.
92 points Wine Spectator
2002 Punk Dog, Sophie's Romp, Sonoma/Napa County
2005 Larkmead, Napa Valley
Deep ruby red/purple color. Intense aromatics of sweet black cherry, cassis and violets with floral perfume notes, dark cocoa powder and complex minerals. The palate features sweet black fruits and an elegant yet luscious mouth feel which deepens and concentrates with aeration.
